I WILL Be Slimmer!
Last month, I found my body scale was broken.
Even though I changed dry cells, it never read my data.
The New Body Scale with IoT
On June 1st, I went to an electric appliances store with a broken body scale.
My budget for a new scale was less than 6000 yen including tax, and I wanted my body scale to show me my body fat and muscle percentage.
Thankfully, I got a good one featuring body fat and muscle measurements for about 5800 yen.

After getting home I tried weighing with the new scale, but I didn't see my body fat or muscle percentage on the screen.
I checked the tutorial paper and found an important thing the store clerk should have told me.

My new body scale only shows the weight, BMI figure, and balance; the other detailed body data are sent to a mobile app.
This means users must set up their smartphone app to check their fat percentage or other body statistics, which is fairly tough.

Why IoT device setup is difficult
Computers or mobiles have needed faster and more secure Wi-Fi signals (5GHz bandwidth and WPA3 security).
On the other hand, Internet-friendly appliances, such as smart speakers or smart home gadgets, can't connect to the same Wi-Fi signals as computers or mobiles.
They can only communicate with slower and a bit vulnerable Wi-Fi signals (2.4GHz bandwidth and WPA2 security).
It took me a couple of hours to connect my new scale to the statistics app on my smartphone, but once they were synced, I just weighed every day.

This body scale app can also connect to Apple Healthcare.
Line charts created by Apple Healthcare really motivate me to keep fit!
