Math Drills

I've started learning math on the Duolingo app, which I use to practice English.
Math and music courses were launched in the autumn 2024, but I wasn't so interested initially.
Last month, the Duoling app sent users assessment messages, which changed my mind.

Initially, Duolingo was a language-learning app.

It covered not only English but also almost all languages in the world.
Actually, there are English-learning Japanese who learn other foreign languages with it.
So I was surprised to know it had started math and music courses.

My Regrets for Math

When I was 16, I dreamed of entering a national university near my house.
National university test applicants were given 5 subjects for their entrance exams:   the test subjects were English, Japanese, math, science, and social studies.
I was not good at math and science then, so I was afraid I needed to take an extra year after high school graduation to enter a national university.
Before I chose a university to apply to, my parents warned me that I mustn't take a second chance: Later I realized it was merely my grandparents' wish.
I followed my grandparents' wish and chose a few English departments at private universities in Tokyo and Saitama.
I could focus on English, Japanese, and Japanese history for my university exams.
That meant I stopped overcoming math and science.
Ironically, the education ministry in Japan encourages university students majoring in math or science to study computer science including coding.
Since I'm not good at math, I often have difficulty understanding coding formulas.
National university exam systems have a big change this year: test applicants are given 6 mandatory subjects, and the sixth subject is computer science including Python coding.

I started math on Duolingo from the beginners' course.
I can answer more than 90% of quizzes correctly now, but I'll have difficulty answering them right in the future.

NOW is the time to overcome math.
