Growing Baby Blue Eyes from Seeds
Last autumn, I got a few packs of nemophila seeds.
The reason was that I wanted to take care of baby blue eyes from start to finish.
Last year, for the first time in my life, I got a nemophila pot, which lived for 2 months at the longest.
Nemophila itself lives for only one year from its seed to ripening.
Sowing Nemophila Seeds
A nemophila seed is so tiny: it's only 1mm or smaller.
I got giffy trays and some seeding soil for nemophila seeding last November.
The ideal season for nemophila seeding is considered from late September to early October.
Next time I grow it, I'll start seeding during the autumnal equinox period.

Nemophila seedlings have longer stems than I imagined.
It was stunning to see them sprout!

Nemophila seeds should avoid sunlight, but after sprouting, the seedlings need it: this means they need different care from the seed period.
I sunbathed them in the greenhouse at the entrance during the day, and kept them indoors after sunset.
I saw some seedlings dead due to the cold weather.
Seedlings need sunlight; the cold air is fatal to them.
I had a dilemma in my subconscious growing nemophila seedlings in winter.

Spring Has Come!
When the climate gets milder, the high time for nemophila has come in my neighborhood.
Hardware centers are starting to sell nemophila pots, which cost from 160 to 250 yen per plastic pot.
Hitachi Seaside Park is famous for the hill covered with baby blue eyes, and its admission is 800 yen for one adult, which is more expensive than the regular season.
I compared one visit to Hitachi Seaside Park and growing baby blue eyes at home, and found that growing them was much more economical to enjoy stunning blue flowers.
This year, I didn't buy any nemophila pots and planted my seedlings in flower boxes with joy.

After the vernal equinox, I give sunlight to all nemophila boxes on sunny days, avoiding strong winds.
Potted nemophilas at hardware centers or in the stall at Hitachi Seaside Park are not as curly or as dense as the ones I have grown from seeds.
The first flower blooms!!
